Health and Wellbeing Courses
We have courses that are specifically designed for the BAME community to encourage and empower as well as build confidence and to help learn key English skills. These courses run alongside Health Improvement activities, campaigns and Community Development and engagement within the HLC. Due to the ending of Covid-19 restrictions, we are pleased to say we are back to delivering our courses face to face!
We run 6 Public Health national campaigns annually to raise awareness of key Health issues and deliver a large range of Health Improvement, informational and exciting projects.

English for Health and Wellbeing is a 6-week course for 2 hours per week and is aimed at women and men who do not have English as a first language.
The course is aimed to not only educate and inform on Health issues but also to learn key English and language skills.
The Weekly topics are as follows;
Week1 – Making Doctors’ appointments and access key services
Week 2 – Eat well guide and the benefits of exercise.
Week 3 – Parents evening
Week 4 – Mental Health
Week 5 – Transport
Week 6 – Volunteering and Guidance for getting into work.
Women’s Health and wellbeing is a 13-week course for 2 hours a week aimed at women of child bearing age, Mothers and female grandparents who have English as a second language. The course covers pre and post pregnancy and early year’s child health development.
The Weekly topics are as follows:
Week 1 – Welcome and introductions
Week 2 –Diet
Week 3 – Exercise
Week 4 – Relationship and screening.
Week 5 – Mental wellbeing
Week 6 – Pre pregnancy planning.
Week 7 – Medicine and supplements.
Week 8- Preparing for birth
Week 9- Post birth bonding and development
Week 10 – Feeding babies.
Week 11 – Weaning, healthy eating and activity for toddlers.
Week 12 – Emotional wellbeing after birth & Looking after You.
Week 13 – Thinking about getting back to work, benefits & childcare.
